Mimosa hostilis root bark (also known as Mimosa tenuiflora or Jurema Preta) is one of the most sought-after botanical materials in the natural dye and ethnobotanical market. The inner root bark contains a high concentration of tannins and natural pigments that produce a rich burgundy-to-deep-purple color when used in fabric dyeing, making it a prized material among natural dye artists and fiber craftspeople.
We carry three forms to suit different applications: shredded root bark (ideal for long cold-water or simmered dye baths), whole root bark (preferred by collectors and long-term storage), and powdered root bark (fine grind, optimal for extractions and detailed textile work). All material is sourced from Jurema trees in northeastern Brazil, harvested from mature roots, and shade-dried to preserve integrity.
