Peruvian Torch cactus (Trichocereus peruvianus) is a columnar cactus native to the western Andean slopes of Peru, growing at elevations between 2,000 and 3,000 meters. It is closely related to but botanically distinct from San Pedro cactus (Trichocereus pachanoi) — Peruvian Torch is typically taller (up to 6 meters), more heavily spined, and carries a notably higher alkaloid concentration in its outer skin layer, which has made it of significant interest to ethnobotanical researchers and phytochemists.
Trichocereus peruvianus has been used in Andean traditional botanical practice, and ethnobotanical accounts document its use alongside San Pedro (Huachuma) in certain Peruvian regional traditions. Like San Pedro, the outer skin layer is the botanically active part of the cactus.
We offer Peruvian Torch as dried skin — the whole outer layer removed from mature cactus specimens, cleaned, and dried at low temperature to preserve natural compound integrity. Species-verified as Trichocereus peruvianus, not pachanoi or bridgesii. Packed in sealed, light-proof bags.
Please verify the legal status of Trichocereus peruvianus in your region before ordering. For botanical research, collection, and study purposes only.
