Wild Dagga (Leonotis leonurus) is a flowering shrub native to southern Africa, particularly South Africa and Lesotho, where it grows along roadsides, forest margins, and disturbed land up to 2,300 meters elevation. Known locally as “Lion’s Tail” for its distinctive whorls of bright orange tubular flowers, Wild Dagga has a well-documented history of use among the Khoikhoi, Xhosa, and Zulu peoples of southern Africa.
The leaves and flowers of Leonotis leonurus contain leonurine (a guanidine alkaloid), marrubiin, and other terpenoid compounds that have been studied for mild euphoric, sedative, and analgesic properties in ethnopharmacological research. Wild Dagga is classified as a legal herbal substance throughout the United States and most of Europe, and is widely sold as a dried herb and smoking blend component.
In southern African traditional medicine, Wild Dagga is used for fever, headache, high blood pressure, and as a mild relaxant. The dried herb is prepared as tea, burned as incense, or included in herbal smoking blends.
We offer Wild Dagga as premium dried leaf and flower material from South African cultivars, sun-dried and packed in resealable bags. No synthetic additives or preservatives.
